Low Vibration and Low Noise
With its ribbed cast iron block, the BY range provides an unparalleled level of strength and rigidity. Hydraulic lash adjusters incorporated inside the engine block maintain zero lash to minimize noise. The innovative hydraulic tensioning chain and a well-tuned damper disk work to reduce friction and vibration, while the specially made anti-vibration mount ensures that the BY is highly stable, offering low noise and less vibration.

Easy and Low Maintenance
All Yanmar engines are built with low maintenance in mind, and the new generation BY is no different. With a low maintenance timing chain and auto-tensioning sea water pump belt, alternator belt and valve clearance that require no adjustment, the BY range gives you a hassle-free boating experience. Vital check and most maintenance points are concentrated on one side of the engine to make engine checks and maintenance quick and simple.

The BY series feature a hollow camshaft that not only creates a lower overall engine weight, but also provides an increased power to weight ratio to drive your boat faster and more efficiently. The crankshaft is surface heat-treated, while all parts utilized in the BY are specifically selected for extra durability.

Clean and Safe Engine Room
The engine covers protect against heat and moving parts, thereby minimizing the risk of injury. Keeping the engine room clean improves and eases maintenance, with the BY series' closed crankcase ventilation, the engine produces no oil mist in the bypass air to keep all operating areas clean.

Compact Engine Dimensions
A compact new engine design results in reduced weight and overall size to increase performance. The engine block and oil pan are inclined and sit lower resulting in a minimal overall package to create a maximum overall space in the engine room.

NMEA 2000 CAN-bus Technology
Vital engine date from the electronic control system is shown on a Yanmar LCD display and analogue gauges via a NMEA Can-Bus network. Various compatible control heads are available from Yanmar, providing you with more choice to suite your personal requirements. By incorporating NMEA 2000 technology your engine, transmission, instrumentation and other equipment can be connected and managed via this single network - enabling data sharing with other onboard electronic devices.

Lower Fuel Consumption
Providing efficient combustion, the BY engines feature state-of-art electronically managed common rail fuel injection. Fuel flow is regulated by the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) module, based on engine speed, load and acceleration requirements, resulting in reduced smoke under acceleration. The dual injection technology - a pre-injection in advance of main fuel charge - means better cold starting as well as noise control.
